5-Lug Wheel Hubs

Which 5 Lug Hub Fits My Trailer?

EZ Loader offers six different 5-lug wheel hubs for their boat trailers, so figuring out which one you need can sometimes be confusing and difficult.  We have some tips and tricks on how to identify which hub you have on your boat trailer without removing your hub, but the only 100% accurate way to identify your hub is to remove it.  Please keep in mind that EZ Loader has been making boat trailers since 1953.  They have changed the vendor who makes their hubs a few times over the years, so there may be some small visual differences such as color of the hub. 

We can put the hubs into three categories:

  •           Knott Wheel Hubs – The outer dust cap is metal with no window and says, “Knott Waterproof”.  This hub uses a special locknut, not a castle nut, and does not use a cotter pin.  When the hub is removed you will find sealed bearings held in by a C-clip.  The bearings are not serviceable and need to be replaced.  We offer complete Knott Hubs, but not parts for them.
  •           BT150A EZ Loader Wheel Hubs – The BT150A style hub is typically seen on the lower capacity trailers.  The BT150A is available in grease or oil bath.  The grease version will have a bearing protector that screws onto the front of the hub and the oil bath version will have an aluminum cap with a yellow sight glass in the center, where the oil level inside the hub can be seen. The BT150A has a diameter of about 5-3/4” and there is a notch on the circumference of the hub.  When the hub is removed, you will find the hub uses the same 1-1/16” ID bearing for the inner and outer bearing.  The spindle (the part on the axles that the hub mounts to) will be the same diameter from the threads to the spindle sleeve.
  •           H1000 EZ Loader Wheel Hubs - The H1000 style hub is typically seen on the mid-range capacity trailers.  The H1000 hub is available in grease or oil bath.  The grease version will have a bearing protector that screws onto the front of the hub and the oil bath version will have an aluminum cap with a yellow sight glass in the center, where the oil level inside the hub can be seen. The H1000 has a diameter of about 6-1/2” and the circumference of the hub is solid.  When the hub is removed, you will find the hub uses different bearings.  The inner bearing is 1-3/8” ID and outer bearing 1-1/16 ID.  The spindle (the part on the axles that the hub mounts to) diameter will be smaller at the threads and taper in size up to the spindle sleeve.

The BT150A and H1000 are the two hubs that are often ordered wrong due to them looking similar.  Use the picture below to also help identify which hub you have.

Another note is that the EZ Loader Custom division does not use these hubs on their trailers.  If your EZ Loader Trailer’s VIN begins with 1L8, these hubs will not work on your trailer.
